Story

Please support City Hospice to continue to care for terminally ill patients at the heart of the Cardiff community.

My fabulous friends and I are entering the first ever Sparkle Walk with City Hospice to remember Mike, get together and raise some money to support their incredible work.

When we were first referred to City Hospice we were terrified and I am embarrassed to say we pushed them away. We didn't want to hear the words "palliative, hospice and incurable". We always had hope that Mike would recover but sadly it wasn't long before we needed their help and Mike received the best care from Dr Margred Capel who helped get his pain under control and really treated Mike as an individual. I too received help in the form of counselling from the wonderful Sarah Bull who helped me deal with the enormity of Mike's diagnosis, my fear, living with uncertainty all whilst looking after Mike and our sons. Our world was tipped upside down.

Tragically 11 months to the day following Mike's diagnosis he passed away and our world well and truly fell apart. However, we continue to receive fabulous ongoing support from City Hospice and I'm not sure where we would be without them. They really are "Angels on Earth".

The Sparkle Walk falls on what will be the first anniversary of Mike's funeral which will be a terribly difficult day.   I am sure we will have tears but will try to be sparkling ...just like Mike did every day.

I am so grateful to my friends who have supported us ever since this nightmare began.. People often say folk move on following the initial trauma of a bereavement and I know how lucky and truly blessed I am to have this fabulous bunch of friends who continue to walk beside the boys and I and that's what we'll be doing on the night....with some Sparkle!

The Shining Sparkling Star walkers (in no particular order) are:

Alex Moore, Alyson Slatter, Ana Davies, Ann Angell, Bethan Griffith, Claire and Izzy Constatntine, Claire and Rhian Jones, Claire Akers-Dyer, Fiona Williams, Heather Williams, Helen Ronicle, Jane Burgoyne, Jane Racz, Jo Pike, Jude Hall, Julie Kemp, Karen Laura & Katie Vaughan, Katie Bowler, Kaz Lewis, Liz Fairclough, Lorna Matthews, Mel Fellayn, Rachel Murray, Sarah LLoyd-Davies, SIan Jones, Sian Powell, Steph Jones

City  Hospice rely heavily on fundraising so any spare change you have will be so gratefully received to enable them to continue to help families like us. Thank you x
