Story
Dear Fundraising Hero!
You will by now be aware that we are holding a fundraising event for Marie Curie and require your support to help make this a success.
Here is our story - In brief my father died this year (21/05/2019) from prostate cancer. During his illness he had the fortune of spending time at the Marie Curie hospice in Bradford. The staff there were amazing through the darkest time of our lives. They made not only him but the
whole family feel comfortable and supported. They really did ensure that he made the best of his last few months of life and for that we will always be grateful.
In addition to Dad’s illness, our Mother was diagnosed with Lung Cancer in January of this year, which is a much more aggressive disease. As
you can see, Marie Curie is an organisation that has been there for our family in some difficult times, and unfortunately, will be there again in the coming months/years if we are lucky. We have benefited from their outstanding care first-hand and will continue to in the future. For this reason, we feel that we have a duty to do what we can and support the work they do.
We have currently raised £1,220 since the 21st May and our mission is to raise enough for a days’ worth of care at Marie Curie. This equates to £5.5K!
The Bradford Hospice is a warm and welcoming place where we get to know people as individuals and help them do what is important to them. Our dedicated team is here to provide expert care, every day of the year, for local people who are living with a terminal illness, and their families. The hospice team is supported by a team of around 100 volunteers, all of whom play a vital role in the running of the hospice. We have a 16-bed in-patient unit, where relatives and friends can visit any time of the day or night, and stay with their loved ones if they wish. Our day therapy unit offers outpatient clinics and a wide range of activities and therapies, including exercise sessions, complementary therapy, gardening, music, crafts, quizzes and art therapy led by a local artist. We need to raise £5,562 per day to run the hospice, so every penny counts. Thank you for helping to make sure more people living with a terminal illness in Bradford get the care and support they need.
