WhyWeRun 2023: ‘PURPOSE BEYOND YOURSELF’
Only those who risk going too far, can possibly find out how far one can go. When people come together and align to a common goal, anything is possible.
What are we doing? A group of runners are taking on a 250km multistage ultra marathon, on the Welsh coast in St Davids, Pembrokeshire. Runners will become a part of a community driven effort, to immerse themselves in adventure, to overcome adversity and find out what they’re truly capable of…More importantly, to raise money and awareness for those that need help.
Why it's so important to me? 2021 and 2022 were very difficult years as my wonderful friend Mark and my partners lovely cousin Tim died by suicide. It was a huge shock and we were all devasted. This was at the same time as losing both my incredible Dad and Grandad to cancer.
To say it has been tough would be an understatement, but I found therapy was really helpful for me when it all felt overwhelming and I want to raise money so that other people can get also get the help they need. I also found that running was an essential way for me to take time out, and focus on myself. I also made some awesome friends at the same time. So this challenge is perfect mix of my passion for running and passion for giving something back.
What do bigmoose do? The early intervention therapy that the charity provide has now saved countless lives. They are on the frontline, helping anyone that needs it. Since January 2022 bigmoose have had 595 referrals, 285 of those referrals have graduated and 21 of those graduates have said that their lives were saved by the intervention and therapy.
