Story
Thank you for taking the time to sponsor me. On July 16th, I’ll be walking a marathon (26 miles) as part of the Macmillan Mighty Hike in memory of my mum and grandma.
Our lovely mum was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer in October 2020 at the age of 61. At the time of diagnosis, my son (her first grandson) was only 3 weeks old. My niece (her granddaughter) was only 5. As we were barely able to visit due to the risk of Covid (pre-vaccinations), I know that the Macmillan nurses provided much needed support / company during these difficult times.
Although it was extremely hard for her, there were so many times when she would still manage to crack a joke about the situation that she was facing; she showed such courage throughout, particularly when in hospital without any visitors allowed.
So, although I don’t feel entirely fit enough for this challenge, I’m hoping to have a fraction of her strength to help raise some money in order for Macmillan to support other people who find themselves in a similar situation.
In loving memory of my mum, Barbara Hewson 15.03.21
And my grandma, Patricia Hewson 25.07.17
