Story
I am making Time for a Cuppa Together and raising funds for dementia specialist Admiral Nurses. Thank you for visiting my page and donating to Dementia UK.
The tea party is in memory of Dennys Guillum Scott, my father-in-law, who sadly suffered with dementia. The cruelty of the illness is that it destroys the person’s character. Dennys was a charming gentleman. During WW2 he was a japanese prisoner of war for three and half years. This left him with terrible anxiety over change and a need for security. But he was a caring husband, father and grandfather. Sadly despite being physically fit he began to deteriorate mentally in his eighties. Initially Pam, his wife, looked after him, but after a fractured hip he had to go into a nursing home. The dementia caused him to lose the sharp wit that delighted all who knew him, the mental agility that made him a formidable bridge player and his dignity.
I nursed many people with this horrible disease. It effects the whole family, often the carers themselves are frail. There are many challenges and the Admiral Nurses are helping to support families going through this.
Please spare the cost of a coffee and a cake to help this valuable work to continue.
Thank you for your support 😀
