Story
In September 2014 my late husband Jon completed a coast to coast bike ride from Morecombe to Bridlington. Family, friends and work colleagues joined Jon on the ride to raise much needed funds for Cancer Research. Jon was going through radiotherapy treatment at the time and despite being in a great deal of pain, he completed every single mile, but that was typical of Jon, so determined (stubborn some would say!).
After nearly 4 years of fighting bowel cancer sadly, I lost my wonderful and brave husband Jon on 25th November last year. Jonny lost a brilliant Dad and Paul & Hilary a fabulous brother. Jon had many close and loyal friends who feel his loss too, he was genuinely the nicest most thoughtful and considerate man with just the best sense of humour and we miss him terribly.
In the later stages of Jons illness he was cared for by Sue Ryder – Manorlands Hospice. The care they provided to Jon and the rest of the family was incredible. I really do not know how we would have managed without them. Understandably, Jon was reluctant to go into the hospice, but from arriving there he immediately realised that he couldn’t be amongst more caring, kind and compassionate people. Unfortunately, this level of palliative care is just not available in NHS hospitals and it’s so sad that places like Manorlands have to depend totally on donations – it’s tragic.
So in memory and as a tribute to Jon the original C2C gang (with some extra riders) are hitting the road again and completing the coast to coast in honour of Jon. They’re heading off from Morecombe on 10th September and will arrive in Bridlington on 11th (I will be assisting in the support vehicle but many of my family members are taking part). This is absolutely what Jon would want us to do, to turn our loss into something positive and raise some much needed funds for Manorlands Hospice who provided such amazing care for Jon and the rest of the family at such a difficult time. So please support this very worthy cause in memory of my lovely husband Jon.
Thank you so much….
