Story
Everyone knows someone who has been affected by cancer or a terminal illness. The water polo community, in particular, has had several terrible losses recently which has hit everyone hard. Non more so, than one of our own, who is part of Sheffield and North East who played in our Bronze Medal winning Born 2006 National Age group team and the North East, Gold Medal Winning team, who are National Champions. That weekend in December, in particular, showed the coaches, the parents, the girls and the wider community the power that sport really has. Water polo really is more than just about a game.
Cancer Research UK and Marie Curie are two invaluable charities when it comes to the fight against these diseases and supporting families during these hard times. Swimming is a skill all children should learn, it can literally save your life. The Swimathon Foundation helps local swimming initiatives make lessons accessible to children from all backgrounds and abilities.
As water polo players we hate the monotony of swimming lengths. So this is an opportunity for us to set ourselves a challenge of swimming 5k, 200 lengths each (without a water polo ball in sight!!), whilst raising awareness and money for three key charities.
No matter what you can give, every little helps, so Thank You!!
