Dear Everyone
Thank you so much for sponsoring me to run the Loch Ness Marathon to raise money for Kidneykids Scotland. So far with all your very generous donations you have raised in excess of £800 and there is still money to come in! It is so much appreciated as there is no cure as yet for kidney failure. Many children have dialysis and others may be lucky enough to get a transplant. The money you raised helps to buy new machinery, fund therapists, dieticians and counsellors and provides support to make life more bearable for children suffering from renal failure and their families.
THE MARATHON!
After a delayed start ( not good for the nerves!) we had a cracking day for the marathon -a beautiful crisp cold clear day ( unlike the previous day - 65 mile an hour gales and heavy rain!) After 9 miles I saw my sister's boyfriend (and my personal trainer) at the first aid station - he had dropped out with an injury - not a good sign! However I kept going and at 14 miles my sister appeared on her bike with a much appreciated energy gel! There was also a very funny moment when she nearly fell off while trying to video me! By mile 19 I was getting tired heavy legs but was boosted by 2 complete strangers ( well they were runners!) who kept me motivated and at pace to hit my target of under 4 hours! Was delighted to see all the family cheering me on at mile 24 - Saoirse and her friend Struan even ran alongside me for a bit! Mile 25 took ages to appear, then there was a huge crowd cheering us on to the end! I crossed the finishing line in 3hrs 55mins and 35 seconds! Yeahhhhh! Position 802 out of about 3500 although I dont know how many dropped out! Felt a bit groggy at the end - didnt even manage the celebratory champagne but everyone else did! Will post some photos on the justgiving website for you to see! I am over the moon to have completed it and even more so that I did it in under 4 hours although my legs are really suffering today!
New York 2010 marathon here I come! Sorry Dave!
Huge thanks for your donations and support
Lots and lots of love Sheena x
Hi everyone,
I am attempting to run the Loch Ness Marathon on Sunday 4th October 2009 (in 2 days time! AGGGHHH!)
Since taking up running 3 years ago, I have set myself certain targets, so after a few glasses of wine and much persuasion by my sister's boyfriend ! I thought why not try and run a marathon before the age of 40 (so still 10 years to go - ha ha!) No mean feat with 3 children under the age of seven and a golfing mad husband! or should I say mad golfing husband! Anyway, he has been VERY understanding which is how I have managed to fit in the training! Special thanks go to Garry - my sister's boyfriend who has been my Personal Trainer! He has forced me to keep running even when I wanted to walk after the 6th hill in Edinburgh training run!
Everyone has a charity close to their hearts and this charity is particularly close to mine. My brother Calvin died at the tender age of 8 years old from kidney failure. At the time of his illness there was no support for my parents and as he was based in Yorkhill, Glasgow, my parents had to juggle their time with him in Glasgow and 3 children at home in Inverness. Kidneykids.scotland helps children with renal illness and their families. Their main objective is to enable children to receive treatment as close to home as possible minimizing disruption to the family unit. So thank you in advance for supporting such a worthwhile charity. It will force me to keep on running on the day!
Lots of love and blisters!
Sheena x
