Fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support
On the 15th July, Sacred Heart Catholic College are hosting a family 5k fun run and fayre, raising funds for Macmillan. So many of us are affected by cancer and the diagnosis is news that none of us ever want to hear. It causes people to question everything and fills with fear no matter what the prognosis is. However, the way people move on from the initial diagnosis is also life changing.
Our community’s biggest inspiration came in February this year when our dear friend and colleague was diagnosed with a brain tumour of which 80% was successfully removed, but 1 month on she was diagnosed with a grade 4 glioblastoma, the most aggressive of all cancers with a tough journey ahead.
Having been the most recent in a line of SHCC staff to face cancer, she followed the lead of the amazing staff before her and is facing it with real courage and strength.
We chose Macmillan as our charity as the work they do is all encompassing for anyone touched by cancer. From specialist nurses who cannot do enough, welfare officers who provide financial advise and support, help with wigs, emotional support, the list goes on and they remove the worry from cancer along with the obvious medical support.
Please support the race by giving what you can and by joining what should be an fantastic community event.
