I'm retired police Sergeant Shaun Richards from Dyfed Powys, I retired 4 yrs short of my 30 and a lucky decision it was...On what would have been my last shift on January 16th 2023 I found a swollen lymph node on the right side of my neck, had I been planning the last tour of duty, party etc I likely wouldn't have gone to check it out..I was diagnosed with an aggressive head and neck cancer, the same as Rhod Gilbert suffered recently, I underwent surgery and then 30 sessions of radiotherapy and 6 chemotherapy.The care and treatment I received resulted in a clear scan on the 14th December, im still getting checked every 6 weeks so far so good...Im taking part in a charity trek to Patagonia in November 2025 ,its group event led by Rhod Gilbert ,it will be a 6 day trek over the toughest mountain terrain imaginable, the challenge is to raise funds for the Felindre Cancer hospital in cardiff that treats over 50,000 patients in Wales and also conducts and applies life saving research .Every penny donated will go to the hospital charity, I will be self funding my participation in the challenge.Any donation to the fundraiser  will really be appreciated , cancer affects 1 in 2 people and every penny  offered will be a step towards beating cancer and saving lives.
