Story
We as a family and our friends have been severely affected by mental illness, when we lost Sherry Nicholls to depression in May 2012. A woman who was full of affection, love and a zest for life. To see that person who we loved so dearly, taken away from us in such a dreadful and painful way, by a disease that we knew very little about, was extremely painful and has left a huge chasm in our lives.
“Mental health problems of varying degrees affect 1 in 4 adult people in the UK today, which is approximately 10 million people. Depression is the most common mental health disorder, according to the Mental Health Foundation. It is a very real illness, and debilitating symptoms might include feelings of helplessness, crying, anxiety, low self-esteem, a lack of energy, sleeping difficulties, physical aches and pains, and a bleak view of the future.”
On Sunday 4 August 2013, I will compete in the Ride London100 event, using the event to raise sponsorship and awareness for an organization called MIND.
MIND provide assistance and advice to a large number of local and national institutions and programs so that no one needs to face a mental health problem alone. Their work can be found across all communities and in all walks of life.
