The Charity
I am raising money for Brittle Bone Society - a fantastic charity who support the needs of people born with the rare condition Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI). Osteogenesis Imperfecta is a genetic condition present from birth. Its most striking feature is that fractures may occur easily. Therefore it is frequently called “brittle bone disease”.
My son, Owen, was diagosed with OI in February 2021. I'd never heard of OI before, and it was an incredibly challenging time for our family. There was lots to take in, learn, and to process. Owen has experienced 10 fractures in his first year of life but is the happiest, bravest and most joyful little boy. He makes our hearts so full and I would love to raise as much money as possible for a charity that provides so much support for families like us.
The Promise
To raise as much money as possible, I'll be running the Great West Half Marathon in Exeter. It'll be my 4th half marathon in total, but the gap between my last one and this one means I'm in for it. My best time as a younger, fitter version of myself was 1:37. As a commitment to those who donate, and because, frankly, this means more than the other runs combined, I'll top up the total by £5 for every minute I finish over that time. If, by some miracle, I manage to beat my PB, I'll chuck the 20 quid in I would have spent on poncy craft beer anyway.
New target:
The initial target I set for this challenge was £500. In an incredible feat of generosity and support, you smashed that in just over 48 hours, so that doesn't seem quite enough now..
I've therefore doubled the target to £1000. This cause and charity is a very special one to our family, and it would mean an awful lot if anyone decided to donate, however big or small.
