Thanks for taking the time to visit the Sharp Family JustGiving page.
In January this year we found out that Carol Sharp (our lovely Mother/Mother-in-law/Gran/Granny) had Motor Neurone Disease. It is an awful and progressive disease that attacks the motor neurones, or nerves, in the brain and spinal cord. This means messages gradually stop reaching muscles, which leads to weakness and wasting.
Sadly, Carol, aged 67, had an aggressive form of MND and passed away on Sunday 7 July 2013. There are no cures for MND, and very little drug therapy. She received fantastic support from all carers who visited her from Forest Holme Hospice in Poole and the fantastic people from Marie Curie. The Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA) provided lots of support, information and access to services throughout her battle with the disease.
Carol was a wonderful lady who loved all of her family dearly and had a huge soft spot for her grandchildren. Haydn (11) wanted to organise a fundraising event with his cousins and friends to raise money to help spread awareness of MND in the hope that one day treatment and a cure will be found.
The grandchildren - Alfie, Abbey, Haydn, Solomon and Lenny will be doing a sponsored 5k run on Saturday 13 July 2013. It is a privately organised event where the children and friends will be running the 5k at the Littledown Centre in Bournemouth, in laps of the running field.
If you are able to support the grandchildren in honoring their wonderful Granny by sponsoring them, we would be very grateful.
Many thanks
