Kairos WWT supports and advocates for women at risk of and subject to sexual exploitation. Most have been sexually exploited as children and many have been actively involved in the sex industry, including street based prostitution. Most of the women involved in prostitution were exploited into it as teenages, some as young as 14 years old. Around three-quarters grew up in care and many have never experienced a safe, loving relationship. The vast majority are routinely subjected to at least one of: sexual violence, domestic violence and exploitation through coercive and controllong perpetrators. Every woman we meet has experienced trauma and the majority struggle with the impact of this. It is no surprise that many turn to substance use as a coping strategy. All of the women live in abject poverty and most have no safe space to call home.
