Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
One of the saddest days for myself and my husband Andy was the 5th July 2015 when we lost our dear friend Gary Freeman to cancer.
After eating our Christmas chocolate that year, we both decided that we needed to lose weight so rather than spend how ever much on diet groups or gym memberships, we chose the motivation of Gary and wanting to raise money for charity in honour of his memory. Andy contacted the Arthur Rank Hospice, who were fantastic with Gary and his family, who suggested the Cambridge Half Marathon. This was perfect for him as he soon got the 'running bug' and applied for the 2017 marathon.
Unfortunately for me I have never enjoyed running and didn't feel I could commit to a marathon. Then during a conversation with the girls at work after watching the London Marathon, we got talking about how we could do the marathon as the Moon Walk.
As the Moon Walk is a breast cancer charity, I felt this couldn't be more fitting as unfortunately Gary was one of those rare cases of men who are diagnosed with male breast cancer.
So as soon as the entry date arrived, I registered for the 26.1 miles and on Saturday 21st May, we donned our trainers and did our first training walk of 4.29 miles. Now nine months later, come rain or shine, I have walked around 250 miles in training and also managed to shed 3 stone.
Now I need to do the bit I dislike the most and ask you lovely people to help me raise money for this worthy cause. If you are able to donate a little something through my JustGiving page, I would be ever so grateful.
With love
Sharon xx
