Story
I work for Nightstop in Cumbria and see first hand the difficult situations young vulnerable people are facing in Cumbria - domestic violence, abuse, parental mental health issues, issues with sexuality and gender, alcohol and substance misuse to name a few. At a time in their lives when they should be feeling excited about their future instead they are feeling scared and worried about what lies ahead. These issues contribute to a young person sometimes being faced with homelessness and potentially sleeping rough or sofa surfing in an unsafe situation. Since we started in 2015 we have been able to offer 140 bednights to young people in crisis. That means 140 nights where young people were kept safe and off the streets, when they would otherwise have had nowhere else to go. Our Nightstop hosts provide each young person with a bed for the night, evening meal, access to washing facilities, breakfast the following morning and, a listening ear if they need it. The young people who use our service are able to feel safe, cared for and part of their community when they use Nightstop and to them that is invaluable. Without fundraising and donations we could not continue to offer our service so please donate anything you can for our sponsored sleepout in Durham Cathedral or even, come along and join us for the night. Thanks in advance and dig deep!
