Story
When myself and my little sister Tracy were growing up our dad was and still is our world who taught us so much about the world around us. Even if at times we found he was waffling on, we still listened. He always loved to talk about his younger days when worked down the coal mines in Stoke-on-Trent, when he was a well known mountain climber and the love he had for the Peak District.
Then just 4 years ago our lives were turned upside down and we knew that things were never going to be the same again. Dad was becoming a little confused, miss placing things, repeating himself and not remembering what we were just talking about. Then after finally getting dad assessed it was confirmed that he had Vascular Dementia and at this point everything began to make sense. However, due to dad having other health conditions he is unable to take any medication to slow down this nasty horrible disease.
Today our dad has gone from a quick witted strong man who loved his toffee's and cakes to a very frail 89 year old. We don't know how long dad is going to be with us but every second that we spend with him is a life time of memories that we shall never forget and will cherish always.
On 20th November I am getting married to a man I love dearly, along with my sister and my son James who will be there to walk me down the aisle but one person that won't be able to be there is my dad.
This is why, instead of asking for Wedding Presents we are asking for Donations to Dementia Uk along with Gary's chosen charity, so any money raised may help others in fighting these life changing diseases
Thank you for all your support.
