I have always dreamed of running the London Marathon and I am excited, yet very nervous, to announce that the year is finally here!
I am proud to say that I will be running in support of Shooting Star Children's Hospices. They are a leading children’s hospice charity caring for babies, children and young people with life-limiting conditions, and their families, across London and Surrey. Whether lives are measured in days, weeks, months or years, Shooting Star are there to make every moment count. I decided to sign up and run for the charity after watching a BBC News story during the pandemic on the devastating impact of the financial losses caused by the coronavirus outbreak. There was a real concern that hospices would have to close their doors. It costs £10.1 million a year to maintain the current level of care Shooting Star provides, and just 20% of that income comes from government funding. They therefore rely on charity shops and fundraising events to make up the shortfall and I just knew that I had to help as soon as I could.
I am so grateful to you all for supporting me in this challenge, for taking the time to read this and for your generosity! Hopefully together we can make a difference.
