35% of total housing stock in Romania is in a state of complete neglect and needs urgent repairs. Progress towards a stable market economy has been slow and difficult after years of the oppressive Ceaucescu's rule. Real wages for working Romanian families have dropped by about 40%. In addition to the economic toil, Romania faces the challenge of thousands of children orphaned under the previous communist regime.

In the first week in October I will be joining another 149 volunteers to build 12 homes in the town of Beius, Romania.  This project will transform the lives of 12 families who at present do not have the basic standards of housing that we here in western Europe take for granted.
