Story
In early february of 2020 our then 2 year old daughter Louise Nola Holliday collapsed in her mothers arms due to a focal seizure with no prior instance. She was diagnosed Anti-MNDA receptor encephalitis. An extremely rare auto-immune condition with no known cause and little
We were told the worst and had low expectations of recovery
in the early days. She was diagnosed in februrary and we left hospital at the end of march after a long stay in PICU at the John Hunter hospital.
When getting home she couldn’t walk, talk or eat solid foods which
she was doing perfectly prior to the condition taking hold. It has now been 3 years since leaving hospital and she is on no medications with little lingering major health issues.
The PICU provides state-of-the-art intensive care services to critically ill children and young people across Northern NSW. The Paediatric Intensive Care Unit is a dedicated eight-bed unit, staffed by specially trained paediatric intensivist care doctors, nursing and allied health staff.
