Story
If you found your way here, you probably know by now that we (Beth and Shane) are running the 2023 London Marathon (23rd April) in aid of Whizz-Kidz, a charity close to our hearts.
Whizz-Kidz are the UK’s leading charity for young wheelchair users. An estimated 75,000 young people in the UK need a wheelchair to be mobile. Most young people aren’t getting a wheelchair that fully meets their needs through their local services and that's where Whizz-Kidz comes in. They provide wheelchairs, equipment, support and confidence-building experiences kids need, and campaign for a more inclusive society.
Although we would have felt honoured to run for Whizz-Kidz regardless, we have seen the impact they have first-hand. The charity supported Beth's brother Bradley when he was first diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy, providing him with his first wheelchair at the age of 4 and also ongoing wheelchair training throughout his childhood. This allowed him to access the support he needed, whilst gaining vital confidence and independence which has helped him become the man he is today.
This will be Shane's first official organised marathon (you may remember the mad 10 day prep and solo run in 2021) and Beth's second London Marathon (6 years after she vowed never ever again!). This time we'll be running it together, hopefully from start to finish.
Thank you for taking the the time to visit our page. Any donations, big or small will be massively appreciated and really help to push us through the hundreds of training miles and the 26.2 on race day!
