Story
Hello.
My birthday is coming up.
And we all know that is a one-in-a-lifetime event. I mean, how many Shakiras out there are born on the 18th of october. uhhmmmm... none? so you want to make a mark in this important history. (yes you do).
Problem is, you may be far away in Malaysia or Japan or Ireland or wherever you are and I am probably going to be in a ward hunting for bloods on my birthday so what do you then? :(
So here's the plan. If you plan on getting me anything for my birthday, don't. Instead, convert whatever you have in mind and give it here. E.g. if you planned to buy me dinner, then maybe give £10. If you'd wanted to give me flowers then maybe £5. or a card then maybe £2. a text then maybe 50p (and why am I friends with u again? ;) )
Basically, no matter how small and nonsensical your gift may be. just give. Then maybe be creative and write what it could have been instead, sort of like a virtual date or gift. It can be anonymised too, if you're the secretive type.
If you don't give a shit about me, that's fine too, because you have to give shit about children. Here's what it will mean:
· £5: ten days' life-saving food for a malnourished child
· £10: medicine to treat 27 children for life-threatening diarrhoea
· £50: 25 blankets to keep babies suffering from deadly pneumonia warm
· £100: train a health worker to diagnose illnesses and treat sick children
· £500: enough nutrient-rich food to help 17 children suffering from severe malnutrition
I've been involved with SaveTheChildren for 2 years now and they have been very dependable and involved in many emergency crises, very transparent in what they do with the money and of course, has been saving children.
If you took the time to read this until this point, it will literally take only another 2 mins to give. Don't be lazy!!
So yes, please make my birthday special. I am aiming to raise £181 so I hope you will help make it happen. You will have a grateful heart (and a lot of tiny grateful hearts) blessing you for existing in this world. Much love.
