Story
If you haven't been to SMART then you really should go, especially on a Wednesday at 14:00 when they open their doors to anyone who can shake a tambourine or hold a note . . .
SMART believe that helping people to recover from mental illness is mainly about having something good to do and someone to do it with. They employ and train people in their cafes, garden centre, and floristry; provide specialist advice and recovery support, as well as open their doors every day of the week, most evenings and holidays too so that people don't have to be alone.
From zumba to massage, art to mindfulness, SMART does countless cool things but at its heart is music and, as well as the open Wednesday jam sessions, there is a singers group, band, music lessons and recording project. The music brings people together and lights them up. But the piano is terrible.
The money from this event will mainly help buy a decent piano around which spirits will be raised, tunes will be banged and voices will be lifted on Christmas Day. Thank you for anything you can give.
