Story
I met a couple at the start of lockdown who'd been taken off the streets and put into a hotel as part of the first national lockdown. They weren't alone, 100's of people were temporally homed in empty hotels and hostels with support from charities to ensure their basic needs were met. Shortly after meeting this couple they told me they were going to be parents and the joy in their faces was so heart warming. Over the next six months we supported them with meals, snacks, toiletries, clothes and more to make sure they could be as comfortable as possible given the circumstances. Expecting your first child is the most amazing experience, all the excitement of making plans, where will the baby sleep, what will their room look like and all those gorgeous baby clothes and toys. But the excitement when you're homeless is heavily tinged with worry, especially when your own future is so uncertain. They didn't know where they would be sleeping in a months time, so making any plans for their baby was completely futile. But, incredibly, they still had beaming smiles every time we saw them and we loved to hear how positive and happy they were. As mum's belly grew the smiles got bigger and then after the scan the bump instantly became 'my little boy'. So now the hotels are emptied of their homeless communities and this little family, following the birth of their son in September, are in temporary housing and struggling to make ends meet. I know there's so much love and empathy in our communities and so I would like ask for a small contribution to help this family out. Their needs are very basic; furniture, clothes, food and to pay the bills. This small gesture will, as well as give them a financial boost, let them know that we care and, we want to help.
