BUPA Great North Run 2013 · 15 September 2013 ·
For more years than I can remember, my Gran suffered with cancer. She was always strong and independant and fought through every hurdle. In the middle of last year, she became more poorly. Despite this, she did her best to do what she could and remained the cheeky character she was. As a family, we were supported by St. Michael's Hospice and my Gran went for respite for a short time at the hospice. She was looked after in the best way possible. She particularly enjoyed the food - each patient was asked individually what they would like - Gran's favourite was the mash and gravy. The room she had was beautiful and the staff were so caring and kind.
Gran came home and spent her last weeks at home with us. We looked after her every day through the summer holiday. Every day we talked to her about her first great grandchild that I was expecting at the time. She battled on, always showing her naughty sense of humour. On 31st August, we went for a 3D scan to find out more about Gregor's cleft lip. We hurried home to show her the photos. She couldn't say anything but we could tell she was happy and proud. That night, Gran passed away peacefully in her sleep with her family around her. She never met Gregor but we're sure she knew everything was going to be OK.
I'm doing the Great North Run in her memory and to raise money for the amazing hospice that provided her and our family with excellent support at such a difficult time. She'd be very proud of me but she'd also tell me not to over do things!!
Please support me by donating whatever you can. Even £1 would fabulous and would make such a difference to people and their familes who would benefit from the care of St. Michael's Hospice.
Thank you so much everyone xxx
