Story

Every child must eat this Half Term:

Sewa Day West Midlands is helping schools this half term with emergency food parcels. We spoke to schools over the last few days and astounded by the number of children that are in need, especially those children of key workers. Some teachers are even paying for student meals and buying them groceries so that they eat at home.
With half term next week we are working with numerous schools to help ensure children do not go hungry. Can you help?

Hamper campaign so far:

Feb 2021 half term - Delivered over 131 hampers to 4 schools

April 2021 - Easter Break - Delivered over 230 hampers to 12 different schools across Greater Birmingham

May 2021 - Half term - We are being asked for over 2000 hampers for dozens of schools. Please help us do what we can to ensure children eat.

Rough cost for 1 hampers = £15

Sewa Days COVID 19 Response Campaigns

When COVID 19 exposed us to present extremities, our volunteer teams soldiered up with natural instinct and recognising local needs began with the ‘Help A Neighbour’ Campaign.  Sewa Day have already reached out to those we know and trust via phone calls, social media and drop in the letter box slips, to offer a helping hand.  Activities supported but not exhaustive where for e.g. shopping, deliveries, listening to people in the community via phone calls as a buddy, dropping off medical prescriptions and delivering food.  In doing this we adhered to the govt guidelines.

Sewa Day is actively working with local councils, numerous voluntary agencies, employees especially key care workers.  Throughout the UK our volunteers are the focal point in reaching areas of need, through crucial roles.  2 Campaigns we require your assistance in are as stated below:

  • Care for Carers – Our teams work with both individuals, pharmacies, store owners alongside manufacturers, warehouses etc to source requirements, collect and continuously supplying food and drink to hospitals, who have since reached out to us with specific and essential requests.
  • Food For All - The Demand for food banks has tripled but the supply to these organisations have less than halved. We saw this as our first point of call and Food For All’ campaign was initiated.
Our teams are in contact with and working with individual donor(s), store(s), warehouse(s) and corporate food outlet(s) to collect supplies and distribute them to food-banks, homeless shelters and other associated projects.

How you can help? Sewa Day requires you to fulfill the agenda and needs of COVID-19, we are reaching out to you so we can meet the specific needs of hospitals and organisations we work with.

At a time when the risk implications of COVID-19 are high and people are focused on anxiety, fear, loss, helplessness, SewaDay is the Helping Hand of trust and action.

Can we reach out to you and count on your muchneeded financial support?  Any donation, no matter how large or small will make a huge difference to an individual, a family and our community.

Donations:

You’re kindness and generosity during this extremely difficult time will be appreciated by our community.

Sewa Day is a registered charity in the UK. Sewa Day is an active movement that encourages individuals to volunteer and get involved in acts of community cohesion and acts of kindness through personal approach.

The word Sewa originates from the language Sanskrit.  Which means to be selfless, thinking of others and the environment before our own needs.  It can be linked to the English word serve.

Thousands of Sewa volunteers are involved in various projects each year.  Some of the activities that carried out range from canal cleans and weekly food shelters for the homeless. Sewa Day actively promotes the love and care of our environment and has been instrumental in the widely acclaimed ‘Plant A Tree projects at national parks.
