Story
"Be the change that you wish to see in the world" MK GandhiSewa Day promotes selfless service through local volunteering projects which benefit those around us. Thousands of good-hearted people across the world come together to perform Sewa and experience the joy of giving in its truest sense. By participating in this collective endeavour, we hope that the seeds of Sewa are watered so that acts of kindness and public service are performed more often. Sewa Day is a catalyst in making this happen.
Sewa Day volunteers in Nottingham have been working very hard for nearly a year in various projects across the city and county. Some of these include:
1. Help your Neighbour Campaign - helping the vulnerable and isolated with picking up prescriptions from pharmacies, doing their shopping, and various other tasks.
2. 'Care for the Carers' Campaign - looking after our front line and key workers especially NHS staff at both the Queens Medical Centre (QMC) and City Hospitals, Gamston Lings Bar Hospital, Covid Hubs, Ambulance Service and working tirelessly to source their needs from delivering cooked meals, snacks, drinks, face masks to the increasing demand for hand creams and furniture for respite rooms.
3. Replenishing the Food Banks - food distribution and restocking growing numbers of food backs like the Nottingham Refugee Forum , St Anns and Sneinton Food Banks etc. Our volunteers also provide for homeless and women shelters. All this has only been possible with the help of other partner charities, supermarkets like Morrissons, Marks and Spencers, Tesco, Co-op and other corporate donors especially with the donations of Easter Eggs during this Easter Holidays. We are so grateful for their support.
4. 'Spread some Joy' campaign - looking after the mental well being of our isolated elderly and cheering them up with written letters and drawings of pictures by children at home allowing them to play their part. These creations are photographed and sent digitally to care homes to help brighten up someone's day. Bringing generations and communities together.
Sewa Day is a charity which promotes performing acts of kindness without any expectations in return or a reward. Our team members strongly believe in this ethos and therefore are working to their best capabilities in whatever we can. Please remember to browse through our gallery and see the work we are doing.
We believe that 'Unity is our Strength' and hence our volunteers have networked with various community help groups who have come forward to join us in our efforts. These include the Hindu Temple Nottingham, Sai Dham Temple Nottingham, Nottingham Asian Arts Council (NAAC), Communities Working Together (CWT), West Bridgford Community Helpers and the HSS UK Nottingham branch. Various local restaurants and chefs are also helping us in this campaign. We are really humbled by the great response we have received from everyone and the community spirit created in Nottingham.
Our current projects include a bi weekly community kitchen, replenishing food banks, supporting schools, redistributing food to eliminate food wastage and serving food to the homeless in city centre every fortnight.
Now we need you and your kind donations to help us sustain all the on-going projects and keep these growing so we can continue to fight this Covid-19 crisis.
Sewa Day Nottingham Team hereby thank you in advance and wish to let you know that your kindness will be greatly appreciated.
