Story
Hi guys, this is a plea for you to empty your pockets...
On Tuesday 24th March 2020 I’m going to attempt to run 326km (204 miles) in 7 days across the width of England to raise money for 3 charities; Macmillan cancer support, Lymphoma Action and CALM.
This roughly equates to 46.6km (29 miles) per day, for 7 days, from the Severn beach on the West coast across to Canvey Island on the East coast. I’m aiming to raises £3,000 (just under a tenner for every km I run) and will share this between the 3 charities. As of this moment the furthest I’ve ever run in one go is about 15 miles, so this should be a walk in the park.
The 3 charities were chosen largely for the following reasons:
- Firstly, my mum, Julia Ringrose was diagnosed with breast cancer in September last year. Macmillan are an incredible charity and the centre at Southmead hospital has been incredible in its support of mum.
- Secondly, my Nanna, Valerie Rushton, passed away in June after a short battle with a rare but aggressive strain of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma. Cutaneous lymphoma’s are a largely unknown group of cancers and Lymphoma Action are the only UK charity that are devoted to improving the diagnosis and treatment of these diseases.
- Lastly, suicide is the biggest killer of men under the age of 45 and responsible for 18 deaths per day in the UK alone. 1 in 4 of us will experience a mental health problem yet there are still far too many people who feel they have nowhere to turn. CALM (the Campaign Against Living Miserably) are doing incredible work providing information, support and advice to ensure that no one feels like they have to suffer in silence.
So there it is, it’s been a tough year but let’s get some good out of it.
Please like, share and if you can, donate.
Much love,
Ben
