6.9 million children under 5 die each year from diseases that are preventable… Most of these deaths are in the developing world… Children urgently need more: healthcare workers, vaccines and medicines, and simple nutritious food. In 2013 GSK and Save the Children created unique partnership in order to have a lasting impact on child mortality rates by addressing urgent needs facing the world’s poorest children.

Since 2013 GSK - Save the Children Partnership has trained over 20,000 health workers, fully immunised 97,600 children and treated over 187,000 children for pneumonia, malaria or diarrhoea. GSK employees have danced, baked, run and cycled, to name just a few fundraising ideas, and have so far raised an impressive £3.2million. The partnership directly helped more than 2.83 million children in 45 countries – but there is still a long way to go!

I’m incredibly proud that I can support GSK - Save the Children Partnership. By doing so I feel that I’m part of something important and together and we’re making a difference. It is my second fundraising campaign. Last year I raised money for children suffering from clef palate “Smile Train campaign” by participating in 70.3 Ironman and Istanbul Marathon. And I’m so thankful to many of my colleagues and friends for how quickly we raised money for five operations and another five were matched by GSK. It was a great motivation, but most importantly great relief for children and their families.

This year I’m challenging myself to ride nearly five hundred kilometres from London to Paris in order to raise money for GSK - Save the Children Partnership. The race is in July and preparation is well underway, but I feel a bit nervous because I never rode one hundred plus kilometres every day for four days in a row. I have to make sacrifices especially when it comes to my family when I’m going for a long training during weekends, but they know it is for a good cause and support me. And I truly believe that all of us have a responsibility to help those who are less fortunate and that is where I would like to invite all my friends and colleagues to make a contribution because doing this together is a lot easier. GSK will match all the money we raise together.
