Story
Mike Brown -
As part of Selwood’s 75th Anniversary, this year I will be raising
money for St Johns Hospice Doncaster, North Lancashire and South Lakes by running 151km. This distance is particularly poignant as it is the combined age of our parents when passing.
I sadly lost my Mam to cancer back in December 2019 at the age of 69. She was an absolute rock who held the family together so it was a complete shock to me and my 3 Brothers. Prior to her passing she had spent the last 22 years caring for our Dad who had Parkinson’s disease and within the latter years of the disease had Alzheimer’s too. When our Mam passed we had to put our Dad into care. Since
then he gradually deteriorated and passed earlier this year at the age of 82.
In the last few weeks of our Mam’s life she was absolutely thrilled by the excellent care provided by St John’s Hospice in Doncaster and although we have raised some funds through the collection at the funeral, I thought that now that celebrating 75 years of the company that has given me so much too, it is the right time to do something even greater to honour our Mam and Dad.
The route is going to take place on the Eastern leg of the Trans Pennine Trail starting in Harlington, Doncaster and running right through to Hornsea, East Yorkshire. In order to make this a proper challenge, I aim to have it done within 24 hours.
I am hoping to raise £1510 for the Hospice that our Mam felt so safe in.
I hope to gather support along the way whether just people clapping and incouraging from the side-lines or taking on some of the journey with me. In preparation for this challenge I will taking on some mini challenges too such as trekking mountains and running the Yorkshire 3 peaks.
I would be so, so, grateful if you could help me raise some money for this truly deserving cause.
Thanks in advance
