Fundraising for Alzheimer's Society
The Client Services Team and the Selwood Team at Speedy have unanimously chosen to fundraise for Alzheimer’s Society. Alzheimer’s Society is the UK’s leading dementia charity where they campaign for change, fund research to find a cure, and support people currently living with dementia. Dementia affects individuals in different ways and there are various types people are diagnosed with, Alzheimer’s being the most common. Dementia is the UK’s biggest killer – someone develops it every 3 minutes and there is currently no cure.
This charity rings very close to home for some members of our team, who have had the heart-breaking experience of losing someone to this disease. Anyone who has been through this understands that you grieve twice: firstly when you are losing someone to Alzheimer’s and again when they pass away. However, research has come a long way and while there is no cure for dementia, it is now much more manageable to live with than it once was. That is down to extensive research through wonderful Charites such as Alzheimer’s Society - www.alzheimers.org.uk.
As a team, we have decided to take on the incredible challenge of traveling (virtually) from Land’s End to John O’ Groats! The distance covers a whopping 874 miles starting at the most southern point of the UK, finishing at the most northern. The distance is being covered through different forms of exercise including walking, running, and swimming. There will be regular updates as to where the team is on their journey up North!
The money that is raised through this activity will go towards the amazing support services Alzheimer’s Society offers people living with the disease to ensure that nobody faces dementia alone; an improved understanding about dementia so nobody is excluded from their community; and continued research into a cure, care, and prevention of dementia.
