Story
I'm running a 54km Ultra Marathon on Saturday 15 October, which will be taking place across the Jurassic Coast.
A few years ago my brother signed me up for the Cardiff Half Marathon. At the time I only dabbled in running and occasionally took part in a parkrun, so I stepped up my training for my first big race event. I quickly got the running bug and have taken part in many races over the years.
Last year I completed my first Marathon, and I really enjoyed the challenge of the distance, and so this year I decided to step it up a gear and signed up for an Ultra Marathon. The complete distance is 54km, and it will be the furthest distance that I will have ever achieved.
I'm excited for the challenge ahead of me and I am thrilled to be able to raise some money for the Mary Hare Foundation which supports deaf young people and their education. This year Mary Hare have opened their brand-new Primary School and the Foundation raised a fantastic £4 million to support the project.
About Mary Hare:
Mary Hare School is the largest school for deaf children in the UK, located in Newbury, Berkshire.
The Foundation was established in 1991 by Sir Philip Wroughton, supported by a group of individuals who wanted to help Mary Hare School by raising funds.
Since the Foundation was established, they have raised over £8 million for the development of facilities at Mary Hare School. Whilst the school receives funding from Local Authorities and the Government, these only cover the teaching and care of their pupils. The development of new facilities and updating of existing ones depend wholly upon fundraising and donations raised by the Mary Hare Foundation to support the future of Mary Hare School and its ability to provide excellent provision to so many deaf pupils.
