We raise money to improve the lives of sports tetraplegics

Story

Hi,

My name is Sean Crosby. I am typing this through a speech recognition programme so I hope it read ok and sorry if there are any phrases all spellings wrong.

I have always enjoyed sport and I was a Mountain marathon runner, cyclist and did the London marathon. One day I went on my bike with my friend Nik and we both fell off into a lstream. We were both ok and laughed about it. I had headaches all week and after 2 weeks collapsed. I was in Hope hospital for 8 months. I had split my carotid artery and had a massive stroke due to coming off my bike. As I woke up in hospital I said to myself that I would get  on my bike better.

I was in a wheelchair for 2 years and could not talk or walk. My wife use to push me in the wheelchair with me and my son sitting on my knee.

It is now 10 years since this happened and I have been given the opportunity of a life time. I have been asked to go on a cycling challenge to India in Novemeber trying to raise money for other tetraplegics. I have an adapted tricycle that my Teachers union the ASCL bought for me.(I used to be a Deputy Head teacher in a secondary school) I still can't move my right arm or leg so I will be strapped into the bike.

I have to try and raise £3,250 which will support me with a carer who is Gwynne Furlong. It will also let me raise money for all those people who have been fully abled and then had sporting accidents. It could buy them a speech recognition programme like the one I am on now.

REGAIN is a great charity. I will be cycling with some people who cycle only with their hands.

My wife who teaches full time, looks after our 2 children and me even did a triathlon in Rossendale to raise money.

I would be grateful of any help and thank you for reading my page.

Sean Crosby

This has taken me 3.5 hours to type up!
