Story
Paul Beck -
“My dad was a very proud man. He worked down the pit for 45 years and knew what hard work was. In his later life he suffered from breathing difficulties from his time down the pit and from smoking. This he accepted with some reluctance but he never let it stop him from leading as normal a life as possible. What he found difficult to accept and frustrating was when he became partially sighted. He could no longer drive and enjoy the things in life that he had done so previously. This was difficult to accept and he realised the impact that losing your sight has on people. As a result, when he died he asked for donations to be given to the RNIB so that others may be helped.
It is for this reason and to celebrate my dad’s life that as a family we are climbing Kilimanjaro on 21st February 2011. He was a very proud man who never walked away from a challenge and believed that family was the heart of everything. This combines both of these qualities and I know he would have encouraged us to do it. Hence the reason why we are doing this challenge – in memory of a very proud family man and for the charity of his choice, the RNIB”Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
