Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my Brighton Marathon 2016 page.
I've decided to run the Brighton Marathon on 17th April 2016. With just 20% survival rate within 1 year of diagnosis, and barely 4% survival over 5 years, Pancreatic Cancer has one of the lowest survival rates of any cancer; yet these statistics haven't changed in more than 40 years. It affects men and women equally, and is the 10th most common cancer in the UK. And yet, research into the earlier diagnosis and prevention of the cancer receives little government funding by comparison to other cancers, and continues to have one of the worst survival rates.
I'm raising money for Pancreatic Cancer UK, who will use the money donated to fund research projects into early diagnosis of the disease, with the aim of doubling 5 year survival rates, and supporting families and suffers of the condition.
On a personal note, I'm doing this in memory of my dad. He was diagnosed on the 23rd May 2012, and like the vast majority of the more than 8000 cases every year in the UK, he had very few treatment options, and passed away just 60 days later on 22nd July 2012 aged 52. He was a lover of adventures and getting stuck in with a challenge, and since then I've been raising money to help Pancreatic Cancer UK in their work to help suffers and their families, so others won't have to go through what my family and I did.
So please donate whatever you can, and keep an eye on social media for more on how my training regime is going in preparation for this amazing challenge. Thank you.
