Story
I work in an Alternative Provision Academy and can see the positive impact a charity such as Young Minds provides. Young Minds raise awareness about the vital importance of children and young people’s emotional wellbeing and mental health and they could not do this without the help and support of many generous individuals.
Taking part in the Transcontinental Race No 7, I will be riding totally unsupported from Bulgaria, through Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia, Austria, Italy and finally Brest, France.
This is way beyond my own comfort zone, entailing sleeping outside, mapping my own route and travelling around 4000km and around 40,000m of climbing in my own target of two weeks! This will be a totally unsupported ride - I'm scared, but excited by the challenge.
I’m aiming to target a daily distance of around 300km (180 miles) a day. There are four checkpoints on the way;
- The Buzludzha Monument, Bulgaria. A mountain top, abandoned communist era monument.
- Besna Kobila Mountain, Serbia. A gravel mountain road winding across the mountains.
- Passo Gardena and the Otztal Alps.
- L'Alpe d'Huez. Not the 'normal' way up though. More gravel. I hope you may be able to donate something towards Young Minds! There will also be a 'tracker' where supporters can track my progress when the race commences!
Thank you!
