Sponsored Bike Ride to Walsingham

Sponsored Bike Ride to Walsingham · 1 May 2022
Fr Sean will be taking a sponsored bike ride to The Shrine of Our Lady of Walsingham (130 miles) on Sunday 1st May, the day before the National Pilgrimage. It will take roughly 9-10hrs.
This is in aid of our environmentally friendly LED lightening scheme in St Alban's church, South Norwood.
To prepare for this epic journey Fr Sean will also be doing a number of
journeys to various Cathedrals in the area: Southwark, London, St Albans, Chelmsford, Rochester, Guildford, Canterbury, and Chichester.
If you’d like to sponsor Fr Sean then please fill in a sponsorship pledge
form from the back of St Alban's church, or use this JustGiving page online.
The reason for travelling to Walsingham is also to honour the centenary of the restoration of the Shrine:
‘In 1922, a priest called Fr Alfred Hope Pattern had a beautiful image of Our Lady carved and set up in the parish church of St Mary, Walsingham. People began to travel to that church, to pray there and to inspired by Mary’s example, because she always shows us how we can be better disciples to her Son, Jesus Christ. Something remarkable had happened. The pilgrimage to Walsingham, suppressed in 1538 under the orders of Henry VIII, had been restored; and so, in 2022 we can rejoice and give thanks for the centenary of that restoration.’ Rt Rev Philip North CMP, Bishop of Burnley and Master of the Guardians
