Story
Hi
My name is Sean Crosby. I am typing this through a speech recognition programme so I hope that it reads ok and apologise if there are any phrases or spellings wrong.
I have always enjoyed sport and I was a mountain marathon runner, cyclist and did the London Marathon, I was also keen on winter sports, in particular skiing. One day I went on my bike with my friend Nik and we both fell off into a stream. We were both ok and laughed about it. I had headaches all week and after a week collapsed. I was in Hope Hospital for 4 months. I had split my carotid artery and had a massive stroke due to coming off my bike. As I woke up in hospital I said to myself that I would get back on my bike.
I was in a wheelchair for 2-3 years and could not talk or walk. My wife used to push me in the wheelchair with my son sitting on my knee. I have since re-learned to ski with the aid and help of the Up Hill Ski Club.
It is now 14 years since this happened and I have been given the opportunity of a life time. I have been asked to go on a cycling challenge in October 2015 trying to raise money for other tetraplegics. I have an adapted tricycle that my Teachers union the ASCL bought for me. (I used to be a Deputy Headteacher in a secondary school) I still can't move my right arm or leg so I will be strapped into the bike.
I have to try and raise £3000. It will also let me raise money for all those people who have been fully abled and then had sporting accidents.
REGAIN is a great charity. I will be cycling with some abled people and some disabled people and some who cycle only with their hands.
My wife who teaches full time and looks after our two children now.
I would be grateful of any help and thank you for reading my page.
