Story
We are the Sea of Moyle - land, sea and air relay team participating in the WRT2021 virtual relay challenge for the Laura Hyde Foundation because.......
We want to say Thank You to our dedicated and compassionate NHS health and social care teams and emergency services who have given so much of themselves over this most exhausting and demanding 12-18 months. We want to honour and remember those who are no longer with us and acknowledge their inspiring legacy.
Our frontline workers are exposed to unique and traumatic situations each and every day but who actually takes the time to support them? Stretched for resources, when there is not enough capacity within, staff need to know where to go for vital support and the Laura Hyde Foundation are the UK's leading mental health charity providing independent, best in class mental health support to our frontline healthcare and emergency services workers. You can join us in raising as much as possible to continue enabling that fantastic work and looking after those that look after us ......
We will be carrying the WRT baton on 7th and 8th August, from the cliff top of Fairhead to Ballycastle and onto the ferry to Rathlin Island, where walkers, stiltwalkers, cyclists, horses, tractor, runners, the postal van and fire engine, followed by swimmers and canoeists will carry it to and from the East Lighthouse, finishing the day on the beach with a poem or two for the island's nurses and emergency service workers.
On Sunday we'll take the baton by bus to the West Lighthouse from where donkeys and cyclists will bring it back to the beach, an islander's drone joining in along the way and finishing on Rathlin with passing it hand to hand across the beach. The last leg of its sea journey will be by boat to Ballycastle Bay from where several Ballycastle swimmers will take it across the bay and onto the beach!
Old and young, friends and neighbours are joining in this relay of gratitude and along the way we'll be posting images and updates on social media. All support welcomed and received with heartfelt thanks.
