Story
My childhood friend Gordon has an inoperable brain tumour.
We are both 40 this year and the parties we had planned were cancelled. We did a surprise zoom one for his, back in May, and I'm going to play records for 12 hours, online for mine and hopefully raise some money for charity in the process. I will be on mixcloud live from 11am - 11pm on Saturday August 8 2020. Tune in and join in. https://www.mixcloud.com/skint-richie/
Gordon suggested I should raise some cash to support the Glioma Cellular Genetics Resource that is being created through Edinburgh University's MRC Institute of Genetics and Molecular Medicine.
Glioma is a really aggressive form of cancer and research into it isn't particularly well funded so I'm doing this to raise a bit of awareness and some £££s.
This event is based on Scribble, a club night I ran many years ago in Dundee. We used to wrap the club in paper and set drawing challenges for punters which were then projected by VJs throughout the night. It was a LOT of fun. For this event I've asked a few artist friends to come up with different doodle challenges throughout the day. People at home can take part by posting a picture or video of their drawing on twitter or instagram with #scribblemarathon and I will broadcast it across the live stream. I have a couple of prizes for my favourites. I'll also post up videos of people dancing about their house if you send them.
I'm going to be playing mostly vinyl and fining myself 20p for every duff mix. I'll take requests for ££s to the charities. Each hour will feature a different musical genres so feel free to tune in and out through out the day. I've posted a rough genre list below and on instagram #scribblemarathon.
I am also going to try and raise some cash for Refuge - the anti domestic abuse charity. The work they do supporting vulnerable folk is very important so please consider giving to both charities.
Gordon has written a graphic novel about his life with his tumour and is also going to be featured in a documentary film about his life. He's an interesting guy. You can find him on instagram and twitter @flashvsming
