Story
On 24 June 2022, together as a family, we lost the man who started it all – Husband, Dad, Grandad, Great Grandad, and friend – Tom Parker.
He fought Alzheimer’s disease valiantly for over 15 years. He survived COVID. He even survived the operation to fix his broken hip after his fall, even though doctors thought he wouldn’t. But in the end, everyone must rest, and he can be proud of everything he gave.
Like many before us, we’ve seen first hand what Alzheimer’s can do to a person and family. It’s incredibly hard to see the person you know and love slowly disappear, even though physically they’re there and well.
Sadly, many more are likely to witness it. That’s why we’re taking on this walk, to raise money for Alzheimer’s society and to do our bit, in the fight against dementia.
1 in 14 people over the age of 65 have some form of dementia, and over 42,000 have early onset. This year, 1 person every 3 minutes will develop dementia. Awful figures.
As a family, we appreciate there’s a lot going on with cost of living, post-pandemic blues, and other charities needing donations.
But this month, as our friends and family, we ask you to please make a donation to our walk, the man Thomas Parker, and the fight against dementia. We will be extremely grateful for any donation. Thank you!
