Story
I'm taking part in Stream for Stroke - this is a great way for people who love gaming and livestreaming to help raise vital funds for stroke survivors.
The reason to why I am choosing to help the Stroke Association is because I have watched my own mother suffer two strokes and it is never a pleasant thing to witness or go through.
Her first was when I was 18 and was abroad in Fuerteventura, when she mentioned her arm felt tingly and she was having hot flushes. She was adamant she was fine but we got her to a doctors immediately and they said we needed to rush her to a hospital as she was suffering from a stroke. This is and was the hardest moment of my life. Being in a foreign hospital with very little knowledge of the Spanish language, trying to find out if my mum would pull through or whether or not these are my final moments with her. I’ve never been so distraught in my life. Thankfully, the doctors and everyone on hand were there to help her through it, and after the 3/4 hours I was waiting and what felt like days. I was allowed to see her, I’ve never broken down like I did. I know she might not like me saying this but I clothed her and helped her up and out of the hospital. Fortunately, she appeared to come through without any set backs and we got on with the rest of the holiday.
A few weeks had gone past and after keeping a very close eye on her, I receive a phone call from my grandparents. Telling me that mums been admitted to hospital after suffering a second stroke, I’m not going to lie I actually was adamant this was the last I was going to see my mum alive. I rushed over to the hospital and the waiting game started again. Once again she pulled through and what a fighter my mum is, she just won’t let anything get the better of her. I admire her for what she does and would be lost without her!
Although my mum can still go about her everyday life. I know there are a lot of people that suffer from a stroke and cannot go on like before. So please even the smallest amount can go towards helping someone have a better and brighter life after a stroke!
I wish everyone the best and hope that no one has to go through the pain I’ve been through, and if you do you’re not alone and don’t block out the ones that are closest to you!
