Story
I’m running the Great North Run to raise money for Bowel Cancer Uk.
My Dad was diagnosed with bowel cancer in 2016 and I’ve watched him endure (still ongoing!) 6 years of treatments consisting of 26 rounds of chemotherapy, 6 operations (bowl, liver and lung) and the removal of 18 tumours! I’ve witnessed his emotional rollercoaster of being told he’s cancer free, only to be cruelly informed several months later that more tumours have appeared. Despite all of this, my Dad’s biggest concern was how we’re all doing with it (!?) and would refer to his cancer as a “sh*tty inconvenience”!? I know he had (has) dark days and have seen him lose contact with some friends and family who “couldn’t get their heads around it!” but he’s immediately picked up by the overwhelming support and love from true friends and family.
His incredibly positive attitude has been infectious and I believe he’s inspired so many people around him to take stock and prioritise what’s important in life. Incredibly, whilst going through this (and dodging Covid!) Dad and Mum have raised over £5000 for cancer support charities!
There is no doubt that the advances made over the last few years have saved my Dad’s life but there is so much more to do. More funding is required for critical research and development with the ultimate goal to cure this indiscriminate disease.
I would really appreciate any donations at all to contribute towards the incredible work Bowl Cancer UK are doing.
Thank you 😊
