Having a baby admitted to neonatal care is one of the most stressful events that a parent will have to face. Becoming a parent myself has made me realise how precious life is and how important charities such as Bliss are.

My two boys were born without a problem, however, my God Daughter was born at just 29 weeks and was in hospital for several weeks which was unbelievably tough for her parents and big brother. Fortunately, it all worked out and she is now a happy bouncing two year old.

Bliss's vision is to have a family care nurse in each region of the UK – a minimum of 28 by 2020.

They believe that this would speed up the adoption of a family-centred approach to care and drive the delivery of consistent, high quality family-centred care across the country.

The nurse would work directly with families on the unit, as well as drive changes in practice and build capacity right across the network. It is intended that the nurse would not have any clinical duties but would focus their energies on raising the quality of support provided to families.
