Story
My whole life my Mum has worked with sick children, firstly at Yorkhill Hospital and then moving to The Royal Hospital for Children in Glasgow. I have recently got into running and have decided to take on this journey in 2021 because I have been inspired to raise money to better the children's hospital experience as much as possible!
Ward 3B is a surgical, burns and gastro ward, also caring for children battling the life limiting illness cystic fibrosis.
One of the most important things in a child’s hospital stay is to still be able to play, as some of the children in the ward can be there for a very long time. Play helps a child regain a sense of normality through what can be an extremely challenging time. To fund the play program the hospital relies on charitable donations. The donations they receive fund arts & crafts materials, toys, sensory equipment, games consoles & board games.
My goal is to raise money for Ward 3B to fund some special pieces of equipment. Two lockable, mobile games units with consoles. These units will be portable and can be taken around patients rooms and are height adjustable for those kids who are confined to bed. Each of these units costs around £700 so I have set my target at £1500. I hope to achieve this target and exceed it to allow these units along with other play equipment to be purchased. This will make a huge difference to the time many of these children spend on ward 3B.
