Story
In February this year our lives were turned upside down by a stage 4 lung cancer diagnosis to my healthy 41 year old, non smoking wife Sarah.
Further tests showed her illness to be in the 3% of people to have the rare ALK positive mutation. While still incurable this particular kind of cancer does respond well to a daily dose of medicine called Brigatinib, something only invented in the last decade. We are hoping that this treatment will allow several years of health, something that seemed impossible at first.
The support and empathy offered by fellow sufferers (as well as friends and family) in online support groups, especially in the first horrible days after diagnosis was so helpful to our family so now we want to give something back to a fantastic charity, ALK positive Uk.
This September I’ll be doing something I swore I would not do again…a hilly half marathon! This time in Anglesey, North Wales. Please contribute if you can!
Thanks, Scott, Sarah, Tommy and Robyn. X
