Story
Children battling cancer at Golisano Children's Hospital of Southwest Florida are all too familiar with what it's like to lose their hair. That's why this September the tables get turned and healthy adults volunteer to go bald to raise awareness and funds for kids with cancer at Golisano. Clips for Cancer allows childhood cancer survivors the opportunity to shave an adult's head as part of a celebration of their fight with the disease.
I'm going bald because our hair doesn't define us, the essence of who we are is found within the heart and soul of people. It does make us look different but it is a small price to pay for a good cause and allows us to have fun together to support kids with cancer.
The strength that our patients show everyday has inspired me to go bald. My small change of appearance will show these strong children that they are never fighting alone.
For the past 25 years, Barbara's Friends has helped over 8,000 local SWFL kids with cancer and blood disorders from infancy to age 30. Since March 1, when COVID-19 began, more than 25 local children have been told they have cancer. Last year 49 children were diagnosed. The numbers are up. More families need your help. Please support our Shavees' by making a donation and share with your friends and family to make a difference in our community. Cancer doesn't care who, when or where. WE DO!
