Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page and any help would be amazing.
I am planning on taking on a frightening challenge of walking a continuous 100km over tough terrain along the Jurassic Coast in Devon. This will take well over 24 hours and will involve night walking.
In December 2015 we were given the devastating news that our beautiful wee girl Kim has Rett Syndrome........
This did not only touch immediate family but many friends have been affected by this diagnosis and I am delighted and excited that one of my oldest friends Simon and one of Kim’s mummy’s cousins Robbie will be joining me on this ridiculous challenge to raise much needed funds.
Rett Syndrome is not a condition many have heard of..........what is it?
Rett Syndrome is a neurological disorder that can strike little girls at an early age with no warning. Kim was born, as far as we were all aware, a gorgeous, perfect healthy wee girl with a full and exciting life ahead of her, seven years on it has become clear that her future is now frighteningly uncertain.
At around one years old we began to become slightly concerned as Kim seemed to be falling behind her friends with regards to her development and as time went on these concerns grew. Kim has never crawled, walked or talked and even sitting up is a real struggle for her. The few skills she did develop including finger feeding and playing with toys have been stolen from her as she has lost the use of her hands. There are many, many other complications that have develop over time............and more may follow.
We will not accept this for our gorgeous, bright, cheeky and giggly girl.....
Reverse Rett has given us hope, there has been some amazing research carried out by some fantastic minds all over the world with much of it being undertaken right here in Scotland, recent research has shown that a cure is possible and real life gene trials are underway. This means that more than ever funds are needed to be raised to push us over the finish line for Kim and all the other gorgeous girls around the world like Kim.
So please if you can help us to get rid of Rett Syndrome and make Kim’s life better and hopefully one day she will be able to chat, play and run around like all of her friends by supporting this great charity.
Please help if you can, Scott & Kim xxx
