Story
So here I am again.
The running career in just under a year has snowballed from kidding on to go to the gym and go out running without no other purpose than trying to lose weight or with a dedicated target. To running a 5K at the Olympic Stadium in London. To completing The Great Scottish Run (which I found out recently was not a full Half Marathon, about 150m short, sack the race marshal) to being lucky enough to gain a place for the Virgin London Marathon 2017 on Sunday 23rd of April.
Some of you may know or may not but I currently work as Engineer for Sir Robert McAlpine in London. Not long after The Great Scottish Run in October an email came through asking if anyone would like to run the London Marathon on behalf of Maggie’s. Sir Robert McAlpine are in corporate partnership with Maggie's. Having visited the Maggie’s Lanarkshire centre and seeing how great the centres are and through great encouragement from seasoned runners in my work I put my name forward. I was accepted. Then the ideas of fundraising and the training plans were bouncing about my head. So basically it was game on, but people who know me will understand. I thought the training can wait till after the party festive season. Now however training and most importantly fundraising is underway (contact me if you are interested in my fundraising events or have any fundraising ideas, I would appreciate any help).
As of the date I have set up the page (2nd February) I am 4 weeks into my 16 week training programme, been off the booze (a big task in itself) and joined Victoria Park Harriers. I am loving it and honestly can’t wait to be running through the streets of London with my Bonkers/Happy Hardcore playlist (Oi, oi, here we goooooo!!!!). I am aiming to complete the race in under 3:35:00, have faith. Training updates to follow, stay locked.
I appreciate you taking the time to have a wee look at my page and am fully grateful of any donations you can make for Maggie’s. All will go a long way in helping Maggie’s offer free practical, emotional and social support to people with cancer and their families and friends. Please come along and help me on my journey on raising money for such a GREAT cause.
Cheers and all the best,
Scott
