We fund research into childhood cancer to save and improve young lives

Story

My sister Kaleigh and I were robbed of our Mum when we were far too young.

Having initially been diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2001, Mum fought bravely for 3 years, sadly passing away in August 2004.

Last April I was extremely proud of myself for completing my first marathon in her memory, and was overwhelmed by the volume of support by the tens of thousands of people who came out to cheer on 40,000 strangers.

3:39:32 gave me a long time to think about Mum. During the race, it became apparent running a marathon is as much about mental endurance as it is physical.

And so I thought long and hard about why I was putting my body through the pain. The last 10 miles were excrutiating. (I was very under-prepared for 26.2 miles!) But nothing I felt that day remotely compared to the physical and mental demands Mum endured over a 3 year period.

I spotted several Children with Cancer UK fund-raisers during the run. And again my mind wandered. As a very proud Dad to George and Poppy, I couldn't begin to contemplate how it must feel for a parent to see their own child face this horrific battle. It just doesn't bear thinking about.

And so this year, I am training harder than ever in sleet, wind and snow, and I will run this race, with a smile on my face, knowing I've pledged a minimum of £2,000 to donate to Children with Cancer UK.

If you are able and can afford to, please spare anything you can. £2,000 will go a long way to improving the life of a child suffering cancer. Surely that's got to be worth it.

Cheers, Scott x
